ri Lanka’s bakery owners collective, The All Ceylon Bakery Owners Association announced the increase of all flour-based products such as pastries, buns, cake, rolls, etc. except for bread, starting tonight.
However, according to the President of The All Ceylon Bakery Owners Association N. K. Jayawardena, if gov. will not give specific discounts on baking ingredients, and a future meeting with the Finance Minister, Mangala Samaraweera, to discuss these demands, the price of bread will increase in Rs.10 within the next couple of months.
Mr. Jayawardena pointed out that due to the price increase of industrial gas cylinders and ingredients used for curry paste, the bakery owners are left with little choice, but to increase the price of the baked goodies.
Also, Mr. Jayawardena further elaborated saying that if the prices of the flour are to increase in the future, then they would have to raise the costs of the baked goods also.
