The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) was awarded the Ports Authority of the Year award 2018, by the Global Ports Forum due the the successful year they’ve had so far.
Also, due to it’s record growth of 15.6%, the Port of Colombo has been named the fastest growing port among 30 other container ports during the first half of 2018 by Alpha-liner monthly, a magazine specializes in collecting and analyzing port and shipping related knowledge, vastly used by logistics companies, research companies, banks, port authorities.
In this significant development, The Port of Colombo has surpassed many significant ports in Europe as well as Asia. According to the Alpha-liner port ranking, Singapore came in second with a 11.6% growth, while most European ports including USA and UK stayed strong, yet stagnant in comparison.
A recent memorandum of understanding (MOU) reached by three terminal operators in Colombo – the South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT), the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT) and Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) have contributed to this new development. According to the MOU, all three terminals will promote the Colombo port collectively, minimizing the turnaround time for containers and increasing the effectiveness of the promotions among international businesses. Also, the Port of Colombo was ranked at the 13th place for best connectivity port in the world by Drewry Port Connectivity Index, which is five places up from it’s former rank by the same company. Sri Lanka also ranks in the best Connectivity Port in Asia.
