Sri Lanka triumphed over Hong Kong comfortably at the Asia Volleyball Challenge Cup in Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.
The early lead Sri Lanka achieved in the first set was maintained well by the Sri Lankan players, and finished the game with a remarkable ten point lead. Hong Kong seemed much more spirited during the second half and was successful until the halfway mark, which Sri Lanka led by 16-14. However, Sri Lanka finished off with a 2-0 lead.
In a surprising twist, Hong Kong spikers took the lead for the first time during the third set and maintained a 12-9 lead until the halfway mark. However, Sri Lanka was able to make a comeback and reclaim the lead with a 16-15. The heat of the final battle was on and both sides fought valiantly for the win. However, the home team finished winners with a competitive edge at 25-23.
Sri Lanka declared victory with the final scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-23, and left the field amid loud cheering from the overjoyed Sri Lankan fans.
