The Sri Lankan Ambassador to Austria, Priyanee Wijesekera was ordered to leave her post with five other embassy staff members, due to failure to carry out the official duties while employed.
Apparently, the Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena had been trying to contact Ambassador Wijesekara by phone for several hours last week, yet no-one at the embassy had picked up the phone. The stern disciplinary action from the president shows that the inability to pick-up the phones for extended periods of time from the embassy staff may indeed be due to lack of work ethic and carelessness, instead of a technical failure that is beyond the embassy staff’s control.
The reason for this urgent call remains unclear and the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka did not disclose the content or the intention for the call.
However, Priyanee Wijesekara is still listed as the current ambassador to Austria in the Sri
Lanka’s Austrian embassy website.
The Sri Lankan embassy in Austria is also officially recognized in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
